These professional clarinets are really fantastic to play. They are extremely well balanced in all registers and produce a centered, lush and golden tone that requires very little effort. They show you the way. The altissimo register is smooth and seamless. Tuning is next to impeccable and the lightness of these instruments feels absolutely amazing. The gold posts bring an exquisite touch of refinement to the eye and, I believe, change very subtly the sound in a radiant way. Service and follow-up with the entire staff was very courteous, and immensely professional. Every advanced artist deserves such beautiful clarinets. Bravo!
The tone is so beautiful and round, and the matching set was definitely the way to go.
For an intermediate student like me, the Q2 A provides a luxury sound for an affordable price. The sound is so full and powerful, and the low notes make me fall in love with the A every time!
Absolutely love my Backun Bb Cocobelo Series Q clarinet. Have been looking at Backun for several years and I finally did it.... couldn't be happier. Intonation is so good, notes slot so well, rich sound and I have been able to easily hit altissimo notes(with my same mouthpiece) that I was struggling with before. They just pop out now. Wonder how that happens?? And the horn looks so good too. My new baby!

I love how the upper clarino register opens up on the Cocobolo model and lets you sing and discover new colors. The keyword is exquisite. The price is a steal and there's nothing much better than all of that combined to keep you motivated to improve.
The Backun Q series is a phenomenal horn. Not only is it even in every register, it has a beautiful warm sound that is custom to Backun and Backun only. I’m looking forward to many great years with this horn.
I have not played the clarinet for 4 years and decided to get back into music - this wooden beast plays right away from the bag with such ease that you get motivated to improve every time you pick it up. I can not imagine how it would even sound after I get back into shape and finish breaking it in. Bravo!
This clarinet is AWESOME! I have never had so many compliments on my sound. I had been playing on the same Buffet since 1961 (original owner). After hearing (and seeing) performance clips on Instagram, I did research and made the plunge. Best decision.
I tried a couple other Backun clarinets, but this one was the best! My sound was thick and warm and it fills any room I play in. It is also very beautiful!!
My Backun Q (like new) plays beautifully. My first contact with Backun was by phone. Myroslava Hagen returned my call and was most helpful. Gave me two dealers close to my home in New Jersey. North Country Winds, although further away, was most helpful and accommodating. Miles was super helpful and selected a "winner" Q model for me. I went all in with my switch from Buffet. Vocalise MP, Fatboy barrel and Lumiere bell (both cocobolo). Couldn't be happier!
I'm still in the break in period, but so far it has been absolutely fantastic! The feel of the instrument is very smooth from top to bottom. The intonation of the instrument is very good. The sound is just gorgeous. I replaced my twenty two year old clarinet, and It's just a joy to play!
This is an excellent Clarinet, we got the Q Series and couldn't be happier! Communication was excellent We actually got two (Lucky husband that has a Clarinetist as a Wife) Coming from playing with the worst clarinets (Cuba) to own these ones, is just a blessing!

The Q-series Clarinet has allowed me produce a full dark tone and I absolutely love it. I used a Q in high school and just recently purchased one for college.
This company is the future of clarinets, of that I am certain.
I'm a sophomore in music school at the time of writing this, and I just got this horn a few weeks ago. I absolutely love it. It feels more powerful than my Yamaha, and the throat tones are actually in tune for a change. The transition hasn't been that bad, and by all accounts the horn sounds great. Backun also sent it with a BAM Trekking Clarinet case, which runs for $250 by itself.
My only major gripe is that I have to break it in, and thus I can't play as much as I want to yet. Still, the quality of the horn is more than worth the wait.
All in all, this is the best clarinet I have ever played on and I cannot recommend it enough.
I have been playing a Buffet R13 clarinet for years. Less than two years ago I purchased Backun MoBa cocobola barrel and bell. Loved the way they provided excellent tone and improved articulation and response. I joked with my husband that all I needed to purchase were the two main parts to have a complete Backun clarinet. Never would I have believed that I could afford a Q Series Bb clarinet! I was able to do that recently when Backun had their huge sale. I purchased one of the Demo Q Series Bb clarinets.
I must say that I was a little apprehensive at first knowing that it was a demo. However, I also knew that Backun has never let me down on any of my other purchases. I trusted them and I have not been disappointed.
I just finished day #10 of my break-in period and I could not be happier with my purchase! The keys feel so much more substantial and so much more responsive than with any of the Buffet clarinets I have owned over the years. My demo Q Series plays in tune in all registers and makes is so easy to play altissimo notes. I have had absolutely not problem adjusting to my Q. In fact it fits my hands so much better than any of the other clarinets I have played.

I haven't used it for long, but for the time I have used it, the Q series b flat clarinet has been a massive improvement from the e-11 b flat clarinet that I've used for 5 and a half years. Looking forward to much playing on it!
The entire experience with Backun was amazing. They answered quite a bit of questions I had because I was switching from an R13 (after 35 years) to the Backun Q with cocobolo wood, gold posts and silver keys. This instrument is BEAUTIFUL. The feel, the mechanics, the intonation….it has been everything I wanted. Such a dark warm sound. The altissimo register speaks so clearly. I am in love.
The Qs (both Bb and bass) are wonderful. They’re designed with working musicians in mind: the intonation is excellent, they blend beautifully with other instruments in the section (which is especially important when working in musical theatre), and the ergonomics are outstanding. Not to mention thoughtful details such as the adjustment screws being positioned exactly where they should be, helping to keep the keywork in excellent condition, even while on tour, where access to technicians is often limited.
I have been playing a Buffet Crampon Bb clarinet crafted in 1891. After an overhaul it is playing wonderfully but the tuning standard used in 1891 is far too sharp to play in groups today. I compared many new instruments and my final choice was between a Yamaha SEG and my final choice, the Q series Backun. Wonderful tone and ergonomically comfortable!
My first impression was one of quality. The Backun Q - Series clarinet out performs my Buffet R13 Greenline by leaps and bounds. The tone is even throughout and the intonation is extremely good. Response on the C above the staff is very focused and dependable. I can play this instrument with total confidence.
We've only had this clarinet for a few days, but the sound is so smooth. Everyone who has heard it loves the sound. Great step-up instrument for my high school student.
So far this instrument has been a joy to play. I rented a new instrument and it was nearly impossible to play. I was concerned that I may be getting too old to play (I started Clarinet in 1964) due to the difficulty with the rented instrument. I went to the Mighty Quin and gave the Backun and another brand of A Clarinet a try, and the Backun felt right.
I am thrilled to practice, again, and stay active as an enthusiastic amateur. Oh, and the tome of the clarinet is so warm and mellow.
I moved to the Q from an E-11 partly because it felt more comfortable in my small hands (I'm 5'1"). No more stretching for the pinky keys! The clarinet is beautiful, a joy to play, and I am having an easier time with the altissimo register than on my old instrument. I've paired it with a Chederville mouthpiece and Backun Fatboy barrel and think it sounds wonderful.
I've been playing an old (and probably worn-out) intermediate clarinet for about 10 years. It was played by my daughter for 7 years before that. I always seemed to fumble the B to C# transition but on the Backun Q it happens smoothly and without an intermediate "hiccup." The tone is wonderful; my instructor listened to me play this instrument and two others and agreed this one sounds the best. I'm still in the break-in period but can hardly wait to complete it and play this instrument all the time.
After playin on Buffet instruments my entire life, I have now been Backunated! These instruments are simply wonderful. Response, intonation, sound, consistency and the incredible workmanship provided by Morrie and the whole team. Although I am now retired, these instruments contribute enormously to my continued joy playing the clarinet each and evry day.

This clarinet sounds so nice, full, and warm. I’m a multiple woodwind performance masters student and clarinet is currently my tertiary, but Backun makes it really easy for it to be my secondary.
